Iceland’s Birta pension fund makes several appointments to its board

Iceland’s fourth-largest pension fund, Birta pension fund, has appointed Þóra Eggertsdóttir as chairman of the board of directors, while Hrönn Jónsdóttir has been appointed as vice-chairman.

The appointments follow the fund’s annual general meeting on 22 April.

Eggertsdóttir is the chief financial officer of Icelandia and sits on the fund's board on behalf of employers.

Meanwhile, Jónsdóttir is a multimedia designer who works for Marel in Iceland and is a member of the fund's board on behalf of wage earners.

Eggertsdóttir and Jónsdóttir have switched roles as Jónsdóttir was previously chairman of the board and Eggertsdóttir was the vice-chairman.

Additionally, Jakob Tryggvason was re-elected to the board on 9 April 2025, and Bára Laxdal Halldórsdóttir, who had previously been an alternate member, is now a full board member.

Ólöf Linda Sverrisdóttir and Sigurður R. Ragnarsson were also re-elected to the board of directors on behalf of the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise.

Therefore, the main board of Birta on behalf of workers is Jónsdóttir, Tryggvason, Halldórsdóttir, and Hafliði Kristjánsson. The main board of Birta on behalf of the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise is Eggertsdóttir, Ragnarsson, Sverrisdóttir and Skúli Skúlason.

In terms of alternative board members, Garðar Garðarsson is an alternate board member on behalf of workers, and the alternate board members on behalf of the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise are Guðbjörg Guðmundsdóttir and Bolli Árnason.
