ABP invests €25m in Dutch drone technology

Dutch pension fund ABP has invested €25m in Robin Radar Systems, a Dutch company that specialises in finding and tracking flying drones, to expand its offering in the Netherlands and abroad.

In October 2024, the Dutch investment company Parcom acquired the company, which started as a 'rain radar for birds', a Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) project to map bird flocks and protect aircraft and wind turbines at sea.

However, after an assignment for the Nuclear Summit in The Hague, Netherlands, interest in the company's specific technology that can detect and track flying drones increased.

The war in Ukraine, in which many drones are used, saw Robin Radar Systems supply various radar systems to "better protect" the country against unmanned aircrafts.

Due to the war in Ukraine, ABP said Robin Radar Systems has grown “rapidly”, with turnover increasing from €10m to €50m in a few years.
