Velliv pays DKK 1.1m fine for equality violation

Danish pension provider, Pension & Livsforsikring A / S, Velliv, has accepted and paid a DKK 1.1m fine from the NSK (formerly SØIK).

Velliv was charged with having insurance terms that discriminated against pregnant women from June 2019 to December 2020.

It therefore violated the rules on equal treatment of men and women in connection with insurance, pensions and similar financial benefits in the Insurance Equal Treatment Act.

Specifically, the provider violated the rules in section 8, cf. section 19, subsection 1, cf.3 of the Insurance Equal Treatment Act.

The provider confirmed that the terms only applied to around 0.3 per cent of its customers.

However, it also acknowledged that it should not had the terms in question, stating that it “regrets the case not least for the customers in Velliv”.
