Swedish Pensions Agency appoints Eva Nilsson as chief legal officer

The Swedish Pensions Agency (SPA) has appointed Eva Nilsson as its chief legal officer and head of the legal department, effective 1 January 2026.

Nilsson, who will join the agency’s executive management team, brings extensive experience from legal leadership roles across several Swedish government bodies.

She most recently served as chief legal officer at the Swedish Work Environment Authority, and has previously held similar senior legal roles at Statistics Sweden and the Södermanland County administrative board.

Welcoming the appointment, SPA director general, Anna Pettersson Westerberg, said she was “very pleased” to bring Nilsson into the organisation.

“We look forward to benefiting from Eva’s long experience, broad competence and knowledge in the legal field,” she commented.

Nilsson added that she was eager to take on the role at an organisation she believes “highly values law” and plays an important part in Swedish society.

“I look forward to joining the SPA, an organisation that has a socially important mission that matters to a great many people,” she continued.

“A very important and responsible mission, in other words.”
