Sampension contributions reach record high in H1

Pension contributions to Denmark’s Sampension set a new record in the first six months of the year.

Total contributions amounted to DKK 8.4bn, a 27 per cent increase compared to the same period last year when contributions amounted to DKK 6.6bn.

Commenting, Sampension CEO, Hasse Jørgensen, said: "The fact that customer deposits grew significantly and even reached a record high in the first half of the year is very satisfying. It is an expression of a vote of confidence, which we are very pleased about and which we must of course live up to by ensuring our employees the best possible pension schemes.”

Jørgensen cites several factors behind the increase, such as customers making additional contributions to their pensions.

In addition, the results of this year's collective labour agreement negotiations in the public sector – including an increase in contribution rates in several areas within the state and municipalities – have also contributed to the growth in contributions.

"But the main reason for this development is that we have welcomed several new corporate customers this year. When this happens, we generally find that a large proportion of the employees transfer their previous pension schemes to us when they make the switch. This has also been the case this year, which has contributed to the large increase in contributions and thus also to the growth in total contributions," Jørgensen said.

In the first half of the year, the number of customers and members in Sampension grew by just over 5,000 to a total of approximately 347,000.
