PFZW grants €65m loan to Dutch Railways to boost sustainability efforts

The Dutch fund for the care and welfare sector Pensioenfonds Zorg en Welzijn (PFZW) has provided a loan of €65m to the Dutch Railways (NS), to make the future of rail transport more sustainable.

This loan is intended for general business purposes but also to contribute to reducing NS's CO2 emissions. It is also aligned with PFZW's ambition to invest in companies working on the energy transition.

The fund said it wanted to offer a “good pension in a liveable world” and therefore investments in the energy transition offer the returns to make this possible.

With this loan, NS can make its company more sustainable. The loan also corresponds with PFZW’s ambition to have a climate-neutral investment portfolio by 2050.

In addition to this, PFZW has invested in Electra to make car transport more sustainable and Elyse Energy, which contributes to the production of CO2-saving fuel for aircraft, seagoing vessels, and large chemical installations, to help achieve its sustainability goals.
