Greek occupational pension fund assets hit €2,833m at end of 2025 – Bank of Greece

Total Greek occupational pension fund assets reached €2,833m at the end of 2025, a rise of 3.4 per cent (€92m) on the third quarter of 2025, when assets stood at €2,741m, according to data from the Bank of Greece.

During the quarter, pension fund deposits increased by €15m to €97m. As a result, deposits’ share in total assets increased to 3.4 per cent compared with 3 per cent in the previous quarter.

Total holdings of debt securities increased to €1,186m at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, up from €1,165m in the previous quarter.

The Bank of Greece said this development was mainly due to net purchases of domestic bonds.

However, debt securities’ share decreased to 41.9 per cent of total assets at the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with 42.5 per cent in the previous quarter.

Total holdings of investment fund shares also increased to €1,026m, up from €979m in the previous quarter. The increase was attributed to net purchases but also to increases in foreign funds’ share values.

Investment fund holdings’ ratio in total assets increased to 36.2 per cent, compared with 35.7 per cent in the previous quarter.

Furthermore, equity holdings decreased to €464m at the end of the fourth quarter, down from €467m in the previous quarter.

The Bank of Greece said this was due to net sales of domestic and foreign equities, almost offset by overall share valuation increases.

The share of equity holdings in total assets decreased to 16.4 per cent from 17 per cent in the third quarter.
