Netherlands’ APG invests in affordable housing

Dutch pension provider APG, acting on behalf of ABP, has invested in 249 affordable and sustainable apartments as part of a €400m partnership with bpfBOUW.

The Prins and Prinses buildings, part of the Hof van Rijswijk development plan, mark the association’s initial acquisition and represent the first step towards adding affordable housing in the mid-rental segment.

The apartments were designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency and are located in Rijswijk, South Holland.

People with certain professions in healthcare, education, police, firefighting, and construction will be prioritised for these homes.

Additionally, APG is allocating around €5bn in affordable rental housing in the Netherlands on behalf of ABP.

This follows participants in funds managed by APG being increasingly challenged to find affordable housing, with APG adding that investments in housing have consistently provided stable returns over the years.

This initiative was designed to contribute to a “secure environment in a sustainable world”.
