Finnish Centre for Pensions announces new research focus

The Finnish Centre for Pensions (ETK) has announced four key research areas it will focus on over the next four years.

Between 2025–2029, its independent research will focus on working careers, transition to retirement, pension adequacy, and the financial sustainability of the pension system.

The research activities are based on a five-year research agenda that guides the focus towards issues important for developing the earnings-related pension system in the coming years.

ETK’s research activity was examined in an external evaluation commissioned by itself in 2023.

Compared to the 2013 evaluation, the 2023 evaluation showed that its research activities had developed “positively” and were “efficient, well-managed, economical and of high quality.”

“We have prepared our new research agenda based on an external evaluation, said ETK head of research, Susan Kuivalainen.

“During the preparation, we met with a wide range of stakeholders and users of our research data.

“We have heard their views on and needs for our research,” she added.
