City of Oslo finds discrepancies in SPK reporting of Oslo teachers’ pensions

The City of Oslo has uncovered a discrepancy in the reporting of teachers' pensions to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) for teachers employed by Osloskolen (Oslo School), dating back to November 2017.

The reporting error applies to all employees who have been paid by the hour, including permanent employees who have worked overtime and employees who have only worked hourly.

It is not currently known how many employees or who this applies to.

The error meant that variable salary was not reported to SPK from November 2017 to date, but all fixed salary was reported correctly.

The error has led to some SPK members having their pensions calculated on the wrong pension basis, while those who have not yet taken their pension do not have the correct pension accrual in SPK’s systems either.

The City of Oslo said that all future reporting to SPK will be correct.

Commenting on the error, SPK director of operations, Berit Gulbrandsrud, said SPK will assist the City of Oslo in correcting the errors so that the pension basis and payments to each individual are correct.

SPK is currently working to get an overview of the total scope of the case, including which members are affected and how the correct data should be entered into the systems.

Gulbrandsrud said that when this is done, SPK will pay pensions in arrears and ensure correct pension accrual.
