Church of Sweden pension fund appoints Thomas Kellagher as regulatory officer

Sweden's Krykans Pension (Church of Sweden Pension Fund) has appointed Thomas Kellagher as regulatory officer, due to increased regulatory scrutiny.

The fund explained that due to comments from authorities that the regulatory function should be handled internally at occupational pension providers and increased regulatory pressure, the regulatory function has been strengthened with an internal resource.

Kellagher will take up the position on 1 May and will be responsible for the Church Pensions compliance staff, and report directly to the CEO, Carl Cederberg.

Prior to this appointment, Kellagher previously held the role of head of the pension compliance function at the fund, which he started on 1 April 2025.

He has worked for several years in banking and finance, dealing with compliance and money laundering issues. He has also held several compliance and legal roles at banks, payment service companies, fintech companies and insurance companies.

Before joining the Church of Sweden pension fund, he worked at the Financial Consulting Hub.

Kellagher has experience as a general counsel, compliance manager, global central function manager (CFA), adviser, and board member.

The consulting assignment with Financial Consulting Hub regarding regulatory issues will also end on 1 May.

Kyrkans Pension is the Church of Sweden's insurer for occupational pensions for parishes, pastorates, dioceses, at the national level and related organisations.
