ABP appoints Herman Bril and Carla van der Weerdt-Norder as directors

Dutch pension fund ABP has appointed Herman Bril as executive director of investments and Carla van der Weerdt-Norder as a non-executive director on behalf of the pensioners.

Bril succeeds Jack Julicher, who temporarily held the role of executive director of investments, and will lead the fund together with ABP chairman of the executive board, Harmen van Wijnen, and ABP executive director pensions, Yolanda Verdonk.

Bril has 30 years of experience in the financial sector, having previously worked at Interpolis Pensions and Asset Management as chief investment officer and Cardano board member.

He also has international experience in the financial sector, including as chief investment officer for the United Nations pension fund in New York.

Most recently, Bril has served as managing director and head of sustainability & climate innovation at PSP Investments.

Meanwhile, Van der Weerdt-Norder was appointed to the Accountability Body as a non-executive director on the recommendation of the pensioners. She will also serve as a member of ABP's Governing Board.

Van der Weerdt-Norder has a background in finance and risk management, having previously worked at Dutch bank ABN AMRO and management consulting firm Accent Organisatie Advies as partner.

She has also held several roles at Triodos Bank, including chief risk officer and member of the Executive Board.

Additionally, Van der Weerdt-Norder is a board member of the Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Committee for 4 and 5 May, a Dutch authority established to preserve the memory of war victims and celebrate freedom.

She is also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdam University of the Arts.

ABP's board comprises executive and non-executive directors, as well as an independent chairman.

The executive directors oversee the management of the day-to-day running of the fund. These directors are currently van Wijnen, Verdonk and Bril.

Meanwhile, the non-executive directors supervise and represent employees, employers and pensioners. Aart Jan de Geus has been the independent chairman of ABP's general board since 1 March 2025. His term has been extended and runs until 1 July 2027. Van der Weerdt-Norder has joined on behalf of the pensioners.

Both Bril and Van der Weerdt-Norder will become members of ABP's general board.
