Sampension invests in ‘major’ Danish solar park

Danish pension provider, Sampension, is investing in a ‘major’ solar park in the country that will produce 132,000 MWh per year.

The investment is being jointly made with NRGi, through NRGi Renewables. The amount being invested remains undisclosed but is a three-digit million krone sum.

The local plan for the solar project was approved by Syddjurs Municipality at the end of March, and NRGi Renewables, which is owned by NRGi and Sampension, said it is ready to proceed with the project.

The final investment decision was made based on a number of commitments from several companies that are ready to purchase a share of the power that the new solar park is designed to produce.

The future solar plant will be built on an open land area between Kolind and Nødager – an area that is currently used for agriculture. The project will cover a total area of approximately 122 hectares, corresponding to approximately 170 football fields.

Commenting, Sampension head of properties and infrastructure, Torbjørn Lange, said: "It is a major focus area for Sampension to actively participate in the development of new sustainable energy and thus contribute positively to the green transition. We are also very pleased with our collaboration with the NRGi Group on NRGi Renewables, and we see great future potential to implement further projects together for the benefit of both increased sustainability and our pension customers' returns”.

Furthermore, according to legislation on renewable energy, installers of energy plants must contribute financially to a green pool set up by each municipality. Therefore, Syddjurs Municipality can look forward to NRGi Renewables contributing DKK 10m to the municipal pool. The funds will go to green and non-profit projects in the local area.
