Denmark's Arkitekternes Pensionskasse rebrands amid 'high returns'

Members of Denmark's Arkitekternes Pensionskasse have backed the scheme's plans to rebrand to Pensionskassen Arkitekter & Designere, following "high returns" in 2021.

At its annual general meeting, the scheme confirmed that it had one of its highest returns ever in 2021, at around DKK 1.1bn.

In particular, the scheme secured a return on average interest rate ending at 10.7 per cent in 2021, whilst the return on the new market interest rate schemes, introduced in 2021, was 21.3 per cent for a 50-year-old with moderate risk.

A number of proposals were also put to a vote at the general meeting, including renaming the fund from the Arkitekternes Pensionskasse to Pensionskassen Arkitekter & Designere, so that the scheme can attach a mandatory health insurance for members taken out via a company agreement in future.

This was in addition to to a vote by the board of directors for a sustainable pension offer, which would target green investments, and a call for a market study of pension management and administration offers. with a focus on sustainability.

Pensionskassen Arkitekter & Designere chairman, Ceclilie Therese Hansen, commented: “The total return for 2021 landed close to DKK 1.1bn DKK, which is one of the highest returns in the history of our pension fund.

"Despite less satisfactory returns in 2020, we chose to stick to the investment strategy, which we actually assessed would create a good long-term return for the members. The decision to hold on turned out to be completely right.

“We now have a modern and flexible pension product at market interest rates, which is based on solidarity and fully on a par with what the commercial companies offer their customers, but at a completely different price.

"As a member-owned pension fund, it is an extremely satisfactory and future-proof situation."
