Jaakko Eskola reappointed as chairman of Varma

Finnish earnings-related pension provider Varma has made several senior appointments to its board of directors, including the reappointment of Jaakko Eskola as chairman and Anu Ahokas as vice chairman.

At its meeting on 14 January, the provider’s board of directors also elected STTK chair, Else-Mai Kirvesniemi, as second vice chairman.

Eskola will continue as chair of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, with Ahokas, who is CEO of StaffPoint Group, as a member.

Konecranes CFO, Teo Ottola, Wärtsilä Energy vice president finance & control, Anja Frada, and Aalto University provost, Kristiina Mäkelä, will continue as members of the Audit Committee.

Kirvesniemi was elected as a new member of both the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Audit Committee.

As of 1 January 2026, the board is composed of Eskola as chairman, Ahokas as vice chairman and Kirvesniemi as second vice chairman.

In addition to this, the members of the board also include Ottola, Frada, Mäkelä, Industrial Union chairman, Riku Aalto, Nordea business director, Nina Arkilahti, Elisa Oyj chief human resources officer, Eveliina Dahl, Fortum Corporation director of key accounts and markets, Simon-Erik Ollus, Akava ry director, Pekka Piispanen, and Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions SAK director, Saana Siekkinen.

Meanwhile, the deputy members of the board include Finnish Business School Graduates executive director, Jari Elo, the Confederation of Finnish Industry and Employers Foundation, Confederation of Finnish Industries EK representative, Jouni Hakala, and Sampo Group investment director, Ville Talasmäki.
