Icelandic Professionals' Pension Fund appoints Páll Ásgrímsson to board of directors

Icelandic Professionals' Pension Fund (LIVE) has appointed Páll Ásgrímsson to its board of directors, replacing Árni Stefánsson, a board member since 2017.

Páll is the general counsel of Sýn hf. and sits on the company's board of directors.

Previously, Páll was one of the owners of the law firm Juris, director and managing director of the legal department of Síminn (later Skipti), in addition to having experience from EFTA and ESA in Brussels, being a senior lawyer at the Icelandic Competition Authority and a lawyer at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Páll has also served on the boards of various companies, including Síminn hf., Míla ehf., FARICE hf., Skjásin ehf., Já hf. and Byr hf.

Commenting on his new role, Páll said: “I look forward to working on the LIVE board. I have specialized in telecommunications and media operations for most of my working life.

“It is, therefore, a welcome challenge to review activities in the financial market, but at the beginning of my career, I participated in drafting legislative bills in financial services. LIVE is the largest open pension fund in the country. Therefore, I am grateful to be entrusted with the responsibility of sitting on its board.”

There were other changes to the board, too, as Árni Stefánsson, CEO of Húsasmiðjan, resigned after eight years of successful work for the benefit of fund members.

Jón Ólafur Halldórsson has taken over as chairman of the board, and Stefán Sveinbjörnsson as vice chairman.
