Former CEO Gunnar Balsvik steps back in as Kåpan’s interim CEO

Sweden’s Kåpan Government Employees Pension Fund has appointed Gunnar Balsvik as interim CEO, effective 31 July 2025, following the recent departure of CEO Marie Giertz after six months in the role.

Giertz announced her decision to step down last month (21 July), citing personal reasons for her departure.

Balsvik previously served as CEO of Kåpan from 2003 until January 2025.

Commenting on the appointment, Kåpan Tjänstepension chairman of the board, Ann Follin, said: “As a former CEO, Gunnar Balsvik is very well versed in the assignment and will contribute to stability, continuity and secure leadership with his many years of experience from the business.”

The fund also confirmed that the search for a new permanent CEO has now commenced.
