Dutch pension fund PME affected by data breach

Dutch pension fund PME has been affected by a data breach at a software supplier of a research agency that it works with.

PME said it “has an idea” of which data it relates to and, in cooperation with specialised research agencies, is trying to determine whether unauthorised people viewed or stole the data.

It was made aware of the breach on 28 March 2023.

The pension fund is also investigating what else happened to the data, for example whether the information was published on the interest.

Currently, there are no concrete indications that his has happened, according to PME.

PME stated that it was in close contact with relevant authorities and has informed potentially affected parties as a precaution.

“This is very annoying for those involved,” commented PME Pensioenfonds executive board chair, Eric Uijen.

“I am aware that this brings with it a feeling of unease. That is why I would like to emphasise that PME is working hard and carefully to gain insight into exactly what happened and how we can prevent this in the future.

“To this end, we are in close contact with all relevant parties and authorities. As soon as we know more, we will inform you via this website. The participants involved will receive a personal message from us.”

Several other organisations were also affected by the data breach at the software supplier.
