Dutch pension federation to consult on potential pension issues following UWV errors

The Dutch Pension Federation has launched a consultation with the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment to identify potential issues around supplementary disability pensions.

The UWV recently announced that, since 2020, it may not have calculated benefits under the Work and Income (Capacity for Work) Act (WIA) correctly, with further investigations into this issue currently ongoing.

Many people with WIA benefits also receive a supplementary disability pension from their pension fund, meaning that the recent problems at UWV may also affect this supplement.

Given this, the Pension Federation is now consulting with UWV and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment to clarify which people and amounts are involved and how big the effects are.

Further working agreements will follow, but the federation said that these steps are “a start” in agreeing a careful solution, emphasising that “we do not want vulnerable people to fall between the cracks”.
