Dutch PostNL Pension Fund reaches agreement on transition to new pension system

The Dutch pension fund for workers at PostNL has reached an agreement to transition to the new pension system on 1 January 2026.

The arrangement to change the pension scheme has been agreed in principle with PostNL and the unions.

The agreements are included in the pension fund’s transition plan, and the unions are now presenting this plan to their members.

PostNL and the unions have made agreements in the transition plan about when the pension scheme comes into effect, what the new arrangement will look like, and the balanced conversion of the accrued pensions to the new scheme.

On 1 July 2023, the pension law came into effect that would see pension funds transition to the new pension system in the Netherlands by 1 January 2028.

The pension fund has revealed that it plans to make the transition on 1 January 2026.

“The unions are currently submitting the agreement in principle to their members with a positive recommendation,” the pension fund stated.

“If they agree, the final agreement will be signed. PostNL Pension Fund will then get to work. We will therefore publish the final plan.

“We have until 1 January 2026 to further prepare the new scheme. That is when our new arrangement will probably come into effect.”
