Danish pensions industry ready to build nursing homes

The Danish pension sector is ready to step in a build nursing homes to help with the shortage in the country.

Insurance and Pension Denmark (I&P Denmark) said the pensions industry has extensive experience in building properties on time and on budget and is ready to contribute to the nursing homes of the future.

The comments were made ahead of today's Senior Citizens' Summit. I&P Denmark hopes that today's big meeting in Fredericia between the government and representatives from the elderly sector will see an end to the administrative obstacles when it comes to the construction of nursing homes.

I&P Denmark CEO, Kent Damsgaard, said: “Several pension companies are ready to build, but there are too many administrative hurdles and ambiguity about tariffs and the economy.

“The pension industry already manages property investments worth more than DKK 200bn and has years of experience in construction, operation and maintenance of properties. The industry would like to bring this experience into play in order to solve the major societal task that municipalities face with the lack of nursing homes.”

I&P Denmark would like to see the government establish a partnership for the creation of nursing homes, where all stakeholders jointly develop new nursing homes.

“Our construction expertise can help the elderly get the care homes they deserve. In addition, our industry is good at building both on time and on budget. Unfortunately, this does not apply to many public buildings. In the event of delays and broken budgets, the bill always ends up with the taxpayer. I hope that the government's proposal can open the way for the pension industry to contribute even more to the nursing homes of the future,” Damsgaard concluded.
