Danish pension scheme transfers increase by nearly 15,000

The number of pension schemes transferred between Danish pension companies increased by 14,636 from 2020 to 2021, according to research from Forsikring & Pension (F&P).

The figures from F&P revealed that a total of 163,029 pension schemes were transferred over the course of 2021, an increase on the 148,394 of transferred schemes recorded in 2020.

Of the transfers that took place in 2021, 80,950 of them were within the job change scheme, representing a 5,414 increase on the 75,536 transfers recorded in 2020.

The number of schemes transferred outside the job change scheme also saw an year-on-year increase, growing from 72,858 transfers in 2020 to 82,079 transfers in 2021.

F&P’s research also revealed an increase in the size of transfers, as pension schemes totalling DKK 70.5bn were transferred between pension companies in 2021,
representing a DKK 13.5bn year-on-year increase.

Of this around DKK 40.7bn was transferred outside the job change scheme and DKK 29.8bn were transferred within the job change scheme.

The research detailed that the amount transferred within the job change scheme increased by DKK 6.8bn in 2021 from the DKK 22.9bn recorded in 2020.

Transfers outside of the job change scheme also saw an increase, rising by DKK 6.7bn in 2021 from the DKK 34bn recorded in 2020.
